An international student at Trent is much more than just a member of Trent International. Mingling with a lively international community of students from across the globe, students are provided with a welcoming and warm environment, making them feel homely and safe. The qualified staff at Trent, keeping up with its social responsibility, involves students in research and innovation, engaging students in volunteering activities, social projects and community events, making sure that they make their little contribution in making this world a better place.
With a student-teacher ratio of 18:1, Trent University receives around 700 students from 100+ countries every year. Having held the numero uno position as the best undergraduate university in Ontario for seven years in a row, the university also offers around 30 out of the 100 clubs available to its international student community. The award-winning architecture of the Peterborough campus offers a breathtaking view of the Otonabee River and is just ninety minutes from downtown Toronto and the Durham GTA campus, located only forty minutes from downtown Toronto in Oshawa, offers the students an internationally diverse, yet close-knit community.

Admission Requirements
International applicants whose first language is not English are required to submit proof of English proficiency meeting or exceeding the following test results.
- TOEFL-86 IBT with a minimum writing score of 20 OR 580 PBT with a minimum TWE score of 4.5. Students must order their official TOEFL score report to be sent directly to Trent through ETS.
- IELTS- 6.5, with no band below 6.0
- MELAB-85, with no part below 80
- CAEL-60
- C1 Advanced (Certificate of Advanced English) by Cambridge Assessment English Grade of 'C'
- Pearson PTE Academic-59
If students receive an admission offer asking them to submit proof of English language proficiency, they must do so by June 1st for September enrolment, December 1st for January enrolment, and April 1st for May enrolment.
Applicants whose English language proficiency is below Trent’s accepted scores are invited to apply for gradual admission through the Trent-ESL.

Accomodation
On-Campus Residence Accommodations: Trent has four residence buildings on campus, each with their own feel and different room and meal plan options. On-Campus residence accommodations are provided by school administration according to the choice of students and availability of said options.
Off-Campus Accommodations: Students have numerous options of finding an accommodation off campus in nearby areas. Students can have access to studio apartments, paying guest facilities, sharing apartment complexes and many more.
Homestay: Homestays are an integral system of housing for students. Students have the opportunity to avail homestay facilities as per their discretion and choices. Homestay hosts include single people, young couples with children and pets, and older couples. All homestay accommodations have been inspected, and all adults in the home have completed a required criminal reference check.

The Student Centre is the vision of Trent University students past and present. Trent’s Student Centre enhances the outstanding student experience that Trent is known for, offering new places and opportunities for students to socialize, learn, study, and engage in life on campus.
The Student Centre offers a wide variety of formal and informal study spaces:
First floor: café with open student spaces, with a collection of round table-seating and lounge furniture for studying and meeting friends. There are also classroom spaces and student meeting spaces.
Second floor: active learning rooms, study spaces, and student clubs and groups, with the glass wall overlooking the fantastic Otonabee River.

Library of the Future
Trent University’s iconic Bata Library is undergoing revitalization and transformation.
Fueled by a recent CAD 8.1 million funding injection from the federal and provincial governments, as well as University contributions, including donor gifts, the Bata Library will undergo a CAD18 million transformation into a library of the future – and home to the new Bata Research and Innovation Cluster.
Features to look for in Trent’s new library of the future, opening September 2018, include:

Student Support
Located in Peterborough, Ontario, Trent University is a public university established in the year 1964. Trent University has a satellite campus in Oshawa, located in the region of Durham. Trent University is home to 7,800 undergraduate students and nearly 500 graduate students who are enrolled at the Peterborough campus while Trent University Durham serves over 1,200 full and part-time students at the campus on Thornton Road in Oshawa. Trent University has a small class size with 18:1 student-to-faculty ratio, which helps students learn closely from peers and faculty.

Scholarships and Awards
Trent University offers a limited number of highly competitive international scholarships and awards to students eligible for admission to undergraduate studies.
Entrance Scholarships (automatic)
Trent University Entrance Scholarships
All students applying to Trent are automatically considered for Trent University Entrance Scholarships, awarded for academic excellence. These range in value from $1,000 to $3,000 and are non-renewable. Final average calculated on academic subjects only.
Students on a Year/Term Study Abroad at Trent are not eligible for Entrance Scholarship. ESL students are eligible for consideration, however the scholarship is tenable for undergraduate studies (and not for ESL). The scholarship amount will be split between the first two terms of studies.
The scholarship can be combined with Trent International Global Citizen Awards.

IB Entrance Scholarships
All international students applying for admission to Trent on the basis of IB diploma are automatically considered for an IB Entrance Scholarship. To qualify for a $1,000 IB Entrance Scholarship, students must complete an IB diploma. The scholarship can be combined with a Trent University Entrance Scholarship and Trent International Global Citizen Awards. The scholarship amount will be given in the first term of studies.
Trent International Scholarships and Awards (application-based)
Trent International Global Citizen Scholarships and Awards
Awarded to entering international students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, community service, leadership potential, and some financial need. Scholarships and Awards partially fund tuition and ancillary fees at Trent in amounts between $2,000 and $24,000 per academic year (housing excluded)*.
Trent International Program Tuition Levy Scholarship
This scholarship is funded by Trent University students through an annual levy. Based on high academic achievement and a strong record of community and/or international service, leadership and financial need. The Scholarship covers international tuition and ancillary fees of approximately $24,000 per academic year (housing excluded).
Trent-United World Colleges (UWC) Scholarships
Awarded to an international student entering Trent University from a UWC college who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement, community service, leadership potential and financial need. The value of the scholarship is determined upon assessment of financial need and may extend to cover international tuition and ancillary fees of approximately $24,000 per academic year (housing excluded).
Jack Matthews International Scholarship
Named in honour of Jack Matthews, the founding director of both Pearson College of the Pacific and the Trent International Program. Awarded to an international student entering Trent University from Pearson College of the Pacific who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement, community service, leadership potential and financial need. The value of the scholarship is determined upon assessment of financial need and may extend to cover international tuition and ancillary fees of approximately $24,000 per academic year (housing excluded).
Justin Chiu International Scholarships
Established by Justin Chiu, who benefited from the Trent experience as an international student. Awarded to entering international students from Asia who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, community service, leadership potential, and some financial need. Scholarships partially fund the costs of a Trent education in amounts between $3,000 and $15,000 per academic year.
Scotiabank International Student Awards (Closed for September 2020)
The Scotiabank International Awards are to support students upon entrance to Trent University from countries in which Scotiabank operates internationally, and are based upon academic excellence, extra-curricular involvement and leadership. The value is up to $5,000 per academic year.
Maple Leaf Leadership Award
Awarded to an international student entering Trent University from a Maple Leaf Education System school who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement, community service, leadership potential and financial need. The value of the award is $2,000 and is given on a one time basis to a maximum of 5 students per year.
*housing fees (including a meal plan) may range from $9,000 to $13,100 per academic year. In addition, students need to budget approximately $2,500-$3,000 for books, supplies and pocket money.

CAEL Scholarship
CAEL CE is the leading academic English proficiency test for study in Canada that is accepted by all major English-language Canadian institutions. CAEL offers two scholarships for international students: $5,000 each, one to a student currently studying in Canada and one to a student currently studying overseas. Western Union
Trent University's financial partner, Western Union Business Solution through its Western Union Foundation teamed up with 23 WU Agents to provide scholarships in communities around the world. The WU Scholars Program provides $2,500 scholarships to students pursuing college/university degrees related to science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or business/entrepreneurship.
