Careers

Students are provided with opportunities to develop portfolios of work during the programme that relate to interests, strengths, previous training and experience, and career aspirations. The underlying assumption is that finding personal strengths and areas of interest is the key to unlocking a rewarding career.

As part of the programme, we offer an elective Work-Based Placement (WBP) course, in which students work with external health and development organisations in the UK and overseas. Students have been placed in research, advocacy and clinical organisations in Kenya, South Africa, Uganda, the UK and Zimbabwe. Graduates of the MSc Global Health and Management programme establish careers in a range of health and development organisations and institutions, these include:

In governance in local/national/regional health policy and planning and administration;

• In monitoring and evaluation/technical assistance and consultancy roles;
• In advisory and advocacy roles with donor agencies, multilateral and bilateral organisations, international and national non-governmental organisations, and civil society groups;
• In research and academia in social and health sciences including epidemiological and health systems and services research, development studies, sociology and political science.

Scholarships

There are scholarships and grants for international students who wish to study in Britain. There is a lot of competition for a limited number of awards, but it is worthwhile applying for the ones relevant to you. You should begin your research early as some scholarships require you to apply at least a year before your degree starts.

Aberdeen Global Scholarship

• The Aberdeen Global Scholarship is a £2,000 tuition fee discount open to eligible self-funded international Master's students from all around the world.
• Your scholarship will be awarded as tuition fee discount and the value of the scholarship will be included in your CAS letter.

There are various options through which a student can get a post study work visa in the UK. 
Tier 1 Graduate Entrepreneur Visa for the graduates with a genuine and credible business idea. 
Tier 2 (General) is the leading immigration visa to work in the UK.
Tier 4 Doctorate Extension Scheme is for students who have completed their Ph.D. and is valid for 12 months for them to work, look for work or set up a business. 
Tier 5 Youth Mobility is for individuals of certain countries like Australia, Canada, Japan, Monaco, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, and New Zealand aged between 18 -30 who wish to move to the UK. 
Tier 5 GAE is for individuals who want to come to the UK for work experience, training, research or a fellowship. 
UK Ancestry is for individuals who are a citizen of a commonwealth and plan to work in the UK and have a grandparent who was born in the UK.
